Terminous Maxi Dress: Wearing the Tiers

Part one: the neckline that lets you in
The neckline is ruched with elastic and opens at a front button placket. In practice you will rarely need the buttons: the elastic stretches enough to pull the dress on and settles back to hold the gathered neckline in place. The placket is there for the days you want it open at the collar, or for nursing, or just for air — a real opening, not a decorative one.
Part two: the sleeves
The raglan sleeves are short and wide. Raglan means the seam runs to the neckline rather than sitting on your shoulder point, so nothing pinches when you reach; wide means air moves through them. They are the reason this ankle-length dress works in real heat.
Part three: the belt, and when to use it
A flat tie belt comes with the dress, part elastic. Worn without it, the tiers fall straight from the gathered neckline — the loosest, coolest version. Tie the belt and you add a waist, which sharpens the whole silhouette for dinner or a photograph.

Because part of the belt stretches, a tied waist still gives when you sit or eat. You get the shape of a belted dress without the negotiation of one. Knot it once at the level you like and it stays comfortable there.
Part four: the pockets
Side pockets, set into the seams so the tiers hide them completely. Phone and keys travel in the dress, which on a long day out is the difference between carrying a bag and not.
